The site has military aviation origins dating to World War I. RAF Aldergrove was a major base through both world wars and into the Cold War. The civilian terminal opened in 1963 alongside the military operations. VINCI Airports took a majority stake in 2022. The airport has seen strong passenger growth since the easyJet and Ryanair expansion of the 2000s.
